All things food. From recipes to philosophies and everything in between. Quirky insights from a dude naturally predisposed to being a foodie, born and raised in the food capital of the world herself, New York City.

Union Square Green Market Popcorn on the Cob

I've had this corn for about 2 months now. Tried making kettle corn twice but it kept turning into some smokey form of caramel corn -- fail.

So I left the kernels on the cob, like the dude suggested, and popped it right into the microwave on the popcorn setting. With bowl and plastic wrap, of course.

2 minutes later.... still nothing... and then the first pop. I hit the minute plus button and let it go until it started to burn. Trust me, it didn't take long.

So we (cobby and I) get to the end of the countdown and there's already a little bit of steam escaping the seams. The plastic wrap was yellow with smoke. I turn over the halves and see that a third of the whole thing is still unpopped. I had this same problem on the stove top with loose kernels.

It's just not very consistent in quality. It's a cool novelty but I don't think I'll be buying this again. I've had better success with the supermarket stuff.
